WordPress

Installing, plugins, email and backups.

A WordPress site runs the official WordPress image with its own MariaDB database, already connected. Your files (themes, plugins, uploads) and the database are kept between restarts and backed up every night.

Finish the install straight away

When the site is live, open https://<name>.sites.dapply.solutions/wp-admin/install.php and create your admin account. Do it as soon as the site is live: until it is done, anyone who finds the address could do it first.

Plugins and themes

Install them from the WordPress dashboard as usual. Keep WordPress, plugins and themes up to date; most hacked sites are hacked through an out-of-date plugin.

Keep it safe

Bots find every new WordPress site within a day and start guessing passwords on /wp-login.php and /xmlrpc.php; you will see them on the site’s Logs page. To stay ahead of them:

Sending email

Sites do not have a mail server, so WordPress cannot send email (password resets, contact forms) on its own. Install an SMTP plugin and connect it to your email provider or a service such as Brevo, Mailgun or Amazon SES.

Your own domain

Add it when creating the site, point it at us (see Domains and HTTPS), then in WordPress go to Settings → General and set both addresses to https://your-domain.

Memory

A Starter site has 512 MB of memory, enough for an ordinary WordPress site. Heavy page builders or WooCommerce shops with many plugins are better on Business (1 GB). If WordPress runs out, the site’s page tells you.
