Deploys and troubleshooting
What the status steps and messages mean.
The site’s page shows where a deploy is, and updates by itself:
- Saved: your change is recorded.
- Setting up: our servers pick it up, usually within a minute.
- Starting: the image is downloaded and started, with its database first if it has one. Large images take a few minutes.
- HTTPS certificate: a certificate for the free address, usually within a minute.
When something goes wrong
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| We can't download the image | Check the image name and tag, and that it is public or in your Dapply registry. Deploy a corrected version from the site’s page. |
| Keeps stopping right after it starts | Your app exits on start. Run it on your computer with docker run -p 8080:8080 your-image to see its error, often a missing setting. |
| Running but not answering on port … | Your app listens on a different port, or on 127.0.0.1. Deploy again with the right port, listening on 0.0.0.0. |
| Ran out of memory | Move to a bigger plan, or reduce how much memory the app uses. |
| Waiting for room on our servers | We are short of capacity. We are told automatically; contact us if it lasts. |
Logs
Every site has a Logs page (the button at the top of the site’s page). It shows the latest 400 lines your app, or its database, has written, newest at the bottom, and you can download them.
- Current run: what the app is doing now. For WordPress this is the web server’s access log: one line per request.
- Before the last restart: the run that ended. When an app keeps restarting, its error is here, for example a missing module or a refused database connection.
Your app should write its logs to standard output and standard error (the console), not to files, so they appear here.
Still stuck? Use Get help in the console; it tells us which site you mean.
Deleting a site
Ask to delete it at the bottom of the site’s page. We confirm deletions, usually within one working day; until then the site stays online and you can cancel. Backups are kept for 14 days after deletion, and a site’s name cannot be used again.
