Backups
What is backed up, and getting it back.
Every night we back up each site’s database and its kept files (the WordPress folder, or your app’s folder to keep between restarts). Each backup is encrypted before it leaves our servers and stored off-site for 14 days.
What is not backed up
- Files your app writes outside its folder to keep, which are reset on every restart anyway.
- Secrets: they stay on our servers but are not in the nightly copy, so keep your own record of them.
- Images in your registry: keep the code to rebuild them.
Getting a backup back
Use Get help: tell us the site, and the date and time to go back to. We restore the database, the files or both, usually within one working day; the site is offline for a few minutes while we do.
Your own copies
Our backups protect against failures on our side. For anything you cannot afford to lose, keep your own copies too: for WordPress, a backup plugin such as UpdraftPlus sending to your own cloud storage; for apps, a scheduled database export from your app.
